Our History

Fellowship Baptist Church was constituted on March 22, 1981, after seven months of prayer and attempts to reconcile with our former church.  We were constituted with 96 charter members.  We began by meeting in various households in October 1980.  We grew quickly and moved on to rent a space in the Lower Housing in Vienna.  We continued to grow and in December of 1980, we moved to a storefront on the north side of the Vienna square.  We filed papers at the courthouse and were incorporated as the Vienna Baptist Mission.  God soon established us as a self-supporting, autonomous church in the Illinois Baptist State Association and the Southern Baptist Convention.

The first few years were exciting as the Spirit of the Lord led us. Everyone was deeply involved.  We grew and purchased land on Senior Avenue.  We had a ground-breaking service on October 9, 1983.  The foundation and floor work was completed before freezing weather.  We began meeting in the new building in September 1984.

God is doing mighty things!  Our programs include: worship services, Sunday School programs for all ages, short-term mission trips, mission groups, youth and children’s activities, Vacation Bible School, etc.  We have added a Christian Family Life Center to our original building.  God has been very good to us.  We have experienced highs and lows, but we believe that God has and will continue to lead us.
